Please give me info on any ideas or little things to save money. I am a college student (20yrs old male) and it will be my first time to the ocean and to the south in general.(im goning to the W. Carrib to the caymans, jamaica, haite, and cozumel with 3 other young 20 yr. olds this sping break). Since im a college student i would love to save money sooo… i am only bringing 300$ with me for spending. I’ve heard to pay tips with envelope, don’t buy drinks, don’t buy silly stuff at shops, and don’t go to casino. I can do all of that but i have to go to the casino! My thinking since im a pretty good texas hold em poker player, is i will just play texas holdem with a group of 7 people and try to take their money or win money that way so i can have more money to spend. Is that a good idea? ……Also i would like to just spend My 300$ only on the islands for food and excursions if possible. Please give me your thoughts on this! thank you!
Oh one more thing. Do I need a passport on the royal carribean if im leaving and coming back to the same port in the U.S.? The pretty sure the site says you don’t need it but they incourage it, but other people say you do. So what is it? Thankyou

Not sure what you mean by needing a passport. It sounds like you plan on spending the entire 7-day cruise on the ship. Wondering why you would even go on a cruise and do that.

First of all, I hope that you’re taking an interior cabin. That will save you money right away.
Then, don’t drink alcohol, soft drinks or bottled water. You can drink coffee, tea, iced tea, lemonade, juices, milk, unbottled water.
Don’t eat at specialty restaurants. There’s plenty of free food. You can get ice cream at the buffet, and right outside on deck is a soft icecream and soft yogurt machine.
Don’t go to the SPA (hair cut or massage). The fitness center is free.
Don’t buy any professional pictures. Take your own camera.
Don’t send your clothes to the laundry. Take along travel packets of detergent that you can find in the drug store. Incidentally, irons are not allowed.
If you go to the casino, you need to realize that you can lose your money. That seems quite dangerous. I would set aside a certain amount for gambling, and not go over it. Also Bingo games, and other games of chance can be quite expensive.
Keep in mind that excursions bought on the ship are considerably less expensive if you buy them in port. I have found that the cab drivers are wonderful tour guides. Excursions can cost anywhere from $20 to over $100 per person.
Keep in mind that you can not use cash on the ship. Royal Caribbean will give you a card that opens your stateroom door. That card is used for all expenses on the ship, including tips to room stewards and dining room staff. You can use cash for tipping other personnel who do something special for you. At the end of the cruise your expenses are placed on your charge card, or paid in cash if you designate that. The cruise ship automatically takes $9.75 per day per person out for tips. However, you can ask them to change the amount if you like. They then give you vouchers for each of the staff- steward, waiter, busboy, maitre-de. You put the vouchers in the envelopes they give you, and hand them to the staff. If you want to give extra, you can add cash to the voucher.
I hope this helps you. Have a wonderful time.

You want to save money but yet you must go to the place that can take that $300.00 in one go??? If you are serious on saving money stick to the things that are 100% free on the cruise ship and any other little things you may want to buy when you go out into the ports!
Hope this helps!

You will love Royal Caribbean Cruise lines!! I’m going on my 7th cruise with RC and this May I’m going on a Southern Caribbean cruise out of Puerto Rico. I have found when you book call RC and talk to a travel agent because they can get you the best deal. Don’t get a cabin on a deck any lower then 4th deck. Also if 3 of you are going get a cabin with a window or ask for a up grade to a Balcony. $300. will be tight but if you don’t pay for $7. drinks you’ll do good. Just shop very carefully. Have a GREAT trip!! You will love it so much!
